All about the trip

Purchase Your fishing license!!!

Every guest will need a fishing license* and King Salmon Stamp* (if doing ANY salmon fishing) from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. You can get this license online through the link here or at the bottom of the page.  If at first, it becomes daunting... Scroll down for step by step instructions, as the licensing site can be a challenge for some. It is not unheard of for busier than usual times of day to slow or halt the process. We encourage you to get this part handled as soon as you know the date(s) of your fishing trip, and get it locked in.

Guests required to have a license/stamp that show up without at least proof of purchase will not be allowed to fish.

* Alaska Resident under 18 and Non-Residents under 16 are not required to purchase a license or King Salmon stamp, but are required to record King Salmon, if caught, on a Catch Record Card which we can print and provide if necessary.

Getting to the boat

This is a flexible topic! If you are flying to Ketchikan and staying in lodging or a short term rental, then we will help you choose the method that best suits the situation.

If you are arriving on a Cruise Ship, then it will depend on the location of your ship's berth. It may be a simple walk from your boat to ours, or it may require a short drive to get to where Clover Point is docked and waiting. We will establish this with you shortly before your arrival. In the event that you need to book transportation during your visit to Ketchikan, reserving a cab ahead of time through Sourdough Cab is highly recommended. You can book online or through their app. In which case, use the link below.

Regardless, we will help guide you to ensure there is no wasted time or confusion.

Getting your ketch home

After the day's fishing and before your trip is done, your catch will be dropped off for processing at either The Cedars or Clover Pass lodge dockside fish processing folks. Both have high standard for processing your fish. Your catch will be filleted, vacuum packed, frozen, and boxed for shipping to your home or taken by you to check on your flight home. If you need them to hold your fish until a later date for shipping or pickup, they can take care of that too. All details regarding this process are arranged between you and them, including disposition instructions and payments.

(Price of Processing Services not included in Ketchin Fish Charter cost. Average cost of $3.75 a lb. plus storage and/or shipping as necessary)

For guests flying in and staying in Ketchikan, your fish will be packed in Alaska Airlines approved fish boxes that you will be able to bring home as checked baggage.

Dress in Layers

Fish bite no matter the weather!

Ideally, you will wear layers commensurate with the given weather forecast for your visit and bring wet weather outer wear like rain pants/bibs and rain jacket, with water proof boots. The Captain has pretty good hose spraying discipline, but there are cases where its gotten a bit outta control!

That being said...

Do your best to come prepared, and make sure to check the weather before your trip and dress accordingly. A hat is useful, rain or shine. A hair tie or bandana is advised for those with longer hair...

Dressing in layers is always the best plan. The mornings can start out chilly and then warm up, or the winds can pick up on a clear, warm, and sunny day... And, though the best footwear is waterproof and easily hosed off, for those who may not have this available to them, running/hiking shoes will work too. Although, we have absolutely beautiful summer weather in June-September... fish bleed... and you can never (ever) rule out a little (or lot) of the rain.

(We can provide a simple plastic poncho)
